This warm-up check is going to be different, so come prepared:
The first one you'll need: "I also enjoy canoeing, and I suppose you will smile when I say that I especially like it on moonlight nights. I cannot, it is true, see the moon climb up the sky behind the pines and steal softly across the heavens making a shining path for us to follow; but I know she is there, and as I lie back among the pillows and put my hand in the water, I fancy that I feel the shimmer of her garments as she passes. Sometimes a daring little fish slips between my fingers, and often a pond-lily presses shyly against my hand. Frequently, as we emerge from the shelter of a cove or inlet, I am suddenly conscious of the spaciousness of the air about me. A luminous warmth seems to enfold me. -Helen Keller 1. Since Helen Keller was blind and deaf, tactile imagery becomes a focus in her writing. Underline the tactile images in this passage. 2. Which images in the passage are more specific: visual or tactile? Support your answers with reference to the passage. 3. Write a paragraph using tactile imagery. And then all the warm-ups from last week and this week: 4/10: Write about your Spring Break 4/11: Copy these rules on hyphens: 1. Use in between two adjectives that describe the same noun as a single idea. The blue-eyed girl. 2. Use when talking about age. The sixteen-year-old girl got her license. 3. If you see an –ly word that helps to describe a noun with another word. The restaurant is family-owned. The poorly-dressed man is ugly. Come up with two examples of your own. Only one can be applied to rule #2. 4/12: Complete the sentences and then add 3 more sentences to expound on your ideas. I wish everyone would learn to..... Then everyone would.... 4/13: Create either a short story or ten individual sentences that use the vocab words for this unit. If you're writing a short story you must use ten words. Remember your quiz is tomorrow!!!! 4/14: Free Write 4/17: Copy the paragraph and correct the mechanical errors: He reproached his wife with her inattention; her habitual neglect of the children. If it was not a mothers place to look after children, who's on earth was it? He himself had his hands full with his brokerage business. He could not be in to places at once; making a living for his family on the street, and staying at home to see that no harm befell them. He talked in a monotonous-insistent way. 4/18: Answer the questions: Discuss a time when you wanted to relive or change a moment from your past. Do you believe that if it were possible to relive the past you could change things, or would you just repeat what happened before? 4/19: None 4/20: TBA 4/21: Free Write
