We're almost there! It's almost Friday!!
Which means... WE HAVE A VOCAB QUIZ TOMORROW! You can't say I didn't warn you. Today we finally finished the Equiano excerpt and discussed that. We then went to the king of "fire and brimstone" a.k.a. Jonathan Edwards. We read "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" and did an imagery activity on that. Please come see me concerning that if you were absent. Tomorrow, we will do a practice CEI paragraph using these texts. We will then have time to use the laptops for our ad projects which we will be presenting Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Hey guys! Happy halfway-through-the-week! Yesterday we watched a crash course video on slavery (which everyone loved! :P). Then we began reading the excerpt from Equiano's slave narrative which can be found in the book. If you need to borrow a book let me know. There are questions to answer to go along with that. We will go over those tomorrow (Thursday) in class. The remainder of class on Tuesday and Wednesday served as time to work on your Ad projects. Make sure you come prepared to work on those on Friday. Those will be due and you will present starting next Tuesday.
Here's a link to a quizlet page with the vocab for the next two weeks. It does have all 20, sorry!
https://quizlet.com/128456333/american-literature-unit-11-vocab-flash-cards/ Happy Monday, everyone! I hope y'all had a great weekend. I spent my weekend moving, so I'm super tired today. :/
Anyway, today for our warm-up we answered the questions, "What effect do advertisements have on our society? Are these positive or negative?" This was a lead into our project that we went over today. If you were absent, please come see me about the project. I have some instruction to add. We took notes on rhetorical devices and were given flash cards for the first ten vocab words. YOU WILL HAVE A VOCAB QUIZ THIS FRIDAY! It's not a huge deal, just know your words. I'm attaching the words to this post. It won't be the same format as what I gave you in class, but it will be the exact definitions. Let's have a great week! abstemious- moderate; characterized by abstinence and self-discipline; temperate, sober censurable- deserving blame or correction; blameworthy or reprehensible contingent-(adj): likely but not certain to happen, possible, happening by chance; conditional, dependent; (noun): a representative group forming part of a larger body corroborate-to confirm, make more certain; verify denizen-an inhabitant; one who frequents a place; dweller discursive-passing aimlessly from one place or subject to another; ambling, roving, nomadic; wandering disseminate-to scatter or spread widely; disperse, broadcast, circulate dowdy-poorly dressed, shabby; lacking smartness and good taste; frumpy florid-highly colored, reddish, flushed, ruddy; excessively ornate, showy, flamboyant foist-to impose by fraud; to pass off as genuine; to bring about by stealth, dishonesty, or coercion Yesterday (Thursday), for warm-up we had ten minutes of free writing time. Afterwards, we began reading the Native American mythology stories. If you were absent, please come see me to get a handout. You will then get the notes from one of your peers on the three stories.
Today for warm-up we wrote our own mythology/ legends. Just pick a person/item/company/whatever and write a story on how you think it was created. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! It's been a great first week and I have loved getting to know y'all better :) Today our warm-up was an MLA review. The biggest thing you need to know for this is that with every paper you turn in to me, it should have the proper MLA heading. This is: Your name My name Class Day month year. Next, we worked on an, "I am From" poem. The template will be attached below. All you have to do is fill in the blanks with information about you. This is my example:
Welcome back! Today in class, we started out with a journal. Please write (at least a 1/2 page) about your goals for this semester. These can be academic, athletic, etc. We followed this with an introductory activity. Next, we went over the syllabus. I will attach that so everyone can get it signed and look over it again. Finally, we started our writing assignment. Please write 300-500 words telling me about yourself. I will attach my example here as well. Don't worry about doing that for homework. We will work on it in class. |
